Our Board of Directors

The South Bend Bike Garage is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that provides strategic leadership, financial oversight, and long-term direction for the organization.

Our board members are passionate about expanding access to bicycles, promoting active transportation, and strengthening our community through cycling.

If you're interested in helping guide a growing nonprofit, we'd love to hear from you.

What Does the Board Do?

The Board focuses on governance rather than day-to-day operations.

Our responsibilities include:

  • Setting the organization's long-term vision and strategic direction

  • Ensuring financial sustainability

  • Hiring, supporting, and evaluating executive leadership as the organization grows

  • Approving budgets and major organizational decisions

  • Supporting fundraising and community partnerships

  • Serving as ambassadors for the Bike Garage throughout the community

Board members are not expected to run daily programs or repair bikes (unless they want to volunteer in those ways!).

How Our Board Works

We strive to create an engaged, collaborative, and welcoming board.

Typically:

  • Quarterly or Monthly board meetings (approximately 60–90 minutes)

  • Committee participation based on interests and skills

  • Board terms are established by our bylaws

We value thoughtful discussion, diverse perspectives, and a shared commitment to our mission.
